320 professionals have attended, in face-to-face and virtual format, representing a total of 128 entities: companies, universities, research and training institutes, foundations and organizations in the health sector.
The first edition of ‘BioMed&Tech Talks: Your appointment with Research and Innovation’, held from April 8 to 10, coinciding with the World Health Day and Week, at the Hospital Universitario Clínico San Cecilio in Granada, within the Health Technology Park (PTS), has managed to bring together a top-level agenda and become a meeting point for companies, universities and reference entities in the health sector.
The premiere of ‘BioMed&Tech Talks’ was attended by 40 experts in biomedicine and biotechnology, of which more than 40% were women: Iliana Ivanova, from the European Commission; Catalina García Carrasco, from the Junta de Andalucía; Amelia Martín, from Farmaindustria; María José Sánchez, from ibs.GRANADA; Amaya Jiménez, from Nokia; Nancy Levy, from Boston Landing; Blanca Quijano, from Fundación Progreso y Salud; Marta Alarcón Riquelme, from GENYO; Olga Genilloud, from Fundación MEDINA; Sarah E. Biel Gleeson, from ibs.GRANADA; Sonia Contera, Oxford University; Ángeles Barrios, EIT Health Spain; María Medina, Medina Media Events; Graziella Almendral, ANIS; Ljubica Latinovic, WHO; Megan Miller, Internews; and Fabiola Torres, Salud con Lupa.
Top-level speakers and attendees
The 40 BM&TTalks speakers came from the United States, Latin America, Europe, Spain and Andalusia, and participated in a total of 34 sessions that made up a first-class agenda.
In terms of the number of attendees and media, the number of registered professionals exceeded 300. The two face-to-face sessions brought together more than 200 attendees, while the figure exceeded 320 attendees adding those who followed the event virtually through ‘The Observatory’, the digital platform of Medina Media Events.
A total of 128 entities were registered, including universities, research and training institutes, foundations and organizations in the health sector. With regard to the positions of the professionals attending, the following stand out: heads of the Andalusian Public Health System (APHS), the WHO, Universities, health professionals and managers (Health Center Management Teams, Health Management Areas, Service Heads, etc.), the Health Research Community, the Pharmaceutical Industry, Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Biotechnological Companies, the Technology Industry and National and International Health Communicators and Informers.
Significant public representation at the first edition of BM&TTalks
On the opening day, the Regional Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Andalusian Regional Government, Catalina García Carrasco, welcomed all those attending and praised “the Andalusian Government’s clear and decisive commitment to research and innovation in healthcare”.
For his part, Isaac Tunis, Secretary General for Public Health and R&D&I in Health of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Regional Government of Andalusia, highlighted the commitment being made by the Progreso y Salud Foundation for the “development of excellent health, as well as for innovation and research”, while stressing the great effort being made to set up the Andalusian Health Institute (ISA), which will be created with a budget of 100 million euros.
Also present were the Deputy Mayor of Granada, Vito Rafael Episcopo, the Rector’s Delegate for Health of the University of Granada, José Juan Jiménez Moleón; and Manuel Reyes, Managing Director of the Hospital Universitario Clínico San Cecilio de Granada.
An exciting starting point
In addition to attending the presentations, attendees were able to hold meetings during the meeting to compare opinions with all the experts and visit the exhibition area. There, they were able to see first-hand some of the most innovative projects of leading companies and organizations worldwide. From an ICU model to show the methodology to be used in complex and highly uncertain moments, to an Extended Reality experience, which has the possibility of treating the phobias of people with intellectual disabilities, or even a bioprinter and a bioreactor that make available to research and science a custom-designed technology, which was created to integrate the advantages of additive manufacturing with tissue engineering, applied to regenerative medicine.
The first edition of ‘BioMed & Tech Talks’ has had a significant media impact, with coverage by media such as Telecinco, Canal Sur (News and programs Andalucía Directo and ConCiencia), Europa Press, El Ideal, Granada Hoy or Granada Digital, among others.
All the conferences of ‘BioMed&TechTalks’ are available in ‘The Observatory’, a platform created by Medina Media Events, where they can be enjoyed throughout the year, in addition to being able to connect at any time with all the professionals who are part of the Virtual Networking, and be informed of the latest news 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As stated by Maria Medina, Director of Medina Media Events, “the goal is that, beyond the days of the events, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, we can be connected”. “We have made a ‘Netflix’ of more than 700 presentations of all the editions of all our events”.

‘BioMed & Tech Talks’ will return in 2025 with its second edition, to be held April 7-10, again coinciding with World Health Day and World Health Week.
The first edition of ‘BioMed & Tech Talks’ was organized by Medina Media Events in collaboration with the Fundación Progreso y Salud of the Consejería de Salud y Consumo of the Junta de Andalucía and was supported by GSK, Nokia, El Observatorio and the Hospital Universitario Clínico San Cecilio. IAVANTE, Andalucía TRADE, ASEBIO, Wellness Forum and Granada Convention Bureau, among others, have also collaborated.
