  • “Spain is going to become a hub for innovation and production in the pharmaceutical industry,” says Farmaindustria, which brings together 134 national and international laboratories that work to improve people’s health and well-being.
  • Amelia Martín Uranga, Director of Clinical and Translational Research at Farmaindustria, will be the speaker at ‘BioMed & Tech Talks’: Your appointment with research and innovation, from April 8 to 11 in Granada, coinciding with World Health Day and World Health Week.

Innovating, researching and investing in BioMedicine and Biotechnology is one of the challenges of Medicine, which with New Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and ‘Big Data’ will be addressed in the new event ‘BioMed & Tech Talks’ (BM&T Talks), which will take place from April 8 to 11 in Granada, on the occasion of the World Health Day and Week.

Farmaindustria, the Spanish pharmaceutical laboratories association that brings together 134 national and international companies operating in Spain, will be present at ‘BioMed & Tech Talks’ represented by its Director of Clinical and Translational Research, Amelia Martín Uranga.

Amelia Martín Uranga announced that in the talks at the ‘BioMed & Tech Talks’ in Granada she will talk about Farmaindustria’s strategy to consolidate Spain’s leadership in clinical research, including the promotion of clinical trials in primary care, the decentralized elements of clinical trials, as well as network trials. In this sense, different initiatives in this field in which Farmaindustria and Andalusia are already collaborating will also be explained.

BioMed&Tech Talks’ is supported by the Progreso y Salud Foundation (FPS) of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Andalusian Regional Government, and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission, Farmaindustria, the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), Harvard University, the Spanish Association of Biocompanies (ASEBIO) and associations of health communicators from the United States, Europe and Latin America have already confirmed their participation.

In this way, the vision of national and multinational laboratories of drugs will also be the protagonists of the first edition of ”BioMed & Tech Talks”, which for four days will bring together in Granada researchers, experts, directors and managers of hospitals, multinational and national pharmaceutical companies, and communicators from the United States, Europe and Latin America.

At the last edition of the Farmaindustria-Autonomous Communities Forum held at the Granada Health Technology Park (PTS), the president of FarmaIndustria, Jesús Ponce, stressed that “Spain is in an ideal situation to become a major hub for innovation and pharmaceutical production and that, along the way, the authorities will have the support and commitment of the pharmaceutical companies”.

Farmaindustria and Andalusia promote collaborative R&D&I projects

The Regional Government of Andalusia and the National Business Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry established in Spain (Farmaindustria) promote R&D&I in healthcare, with special emphasis on clinical trials.

In recent years, Andalusia has strengthened its commitment to biomedical research and has increased the number of pioneering initiatives launched in collaboration with Farmaindustria. It should be noted that both institutions have been collaborating for years in the implementation of pioneering projects such as the promotion of clinical research in Primary Care or scientific dissemination for young students.

In the field of dissemination, Malaga -through the Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga, Ibima- has already held five editions of the Farmaindustria programbringing science to schools, which seeks to disseminate the value of drug R&D among young students

Another area of collaboration isFarma-Biotech Cooperation Program, with which Andalusia collaborates through the Granada Health Technology Park and which seeks to favor the connection of preclinical researchers with pharmaceutical companies.

Innovative format for a high-level event

The Granada Health Technology Park will host the first edition of ‘BioMed&Tech Talks’: Your appointment with research and innovation, a new independent, transversal, international and multidisciplinary event that from April 8 to 11, 2024, coinciding with the World Health Day and Week, will give visibility to innovative projects in BioMedicine and BioTechnology.

The agenda will include two face-to-face sessions (Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 April) and two virtual sessions (10 and 11). This format makes it easier for speakers who cannot travel to Granada to share their progress and messages with the entire community, which raises the academic level of this event to the highest level.

All BM&TTalks presentations can be followed through ‘The Observatory’, the digital platform of Medina Media Events, where all interventions will be available 24/365 for on-demand consumption, like Netflix, but free of charge.
