EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER IVANOVA TO OPEN NEW BIOMEDICINE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY EVENT IN GRANADA

  •  The BioMed & Tech Talks will be held in Granada from April 8 to 11, 2024, coinciding with World Health Day and World Health Week.
  • Iliana Ivanova, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, accepted the invitation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, accepted the invitation to open BioMed & Tech Talks in Granada with a video message. She will speak about the funds that Europe offers to researchers.
  • Representatives from universities such as Boston (United States), Oxford (United Kingdom), the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm (Sweden), Antioquia (Colombia), as well as Granada and Seville (Spain) will participate in the event.
  • Ivanova will also speak about the Commission’s vision for Artificial Intelligence, public-private partnerships and collaboration between countries to improve health, fight diseases and ensure health equity.

Granada, 26th March 2024.- Iliana Ivanova, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, will open the first edition of ‘BioMed&Tech Talks’: Your appointment with research and innovation, which will be held from April 8 to 11 in Granada, coinciding with World Health Day and World Health Week.

Commissioner Ivanova’s video message will be very interesting for those attending, in person and virtually, the “BioMed & Tech Talks” in Granada, as she will talk about various schemes and funds that researchers and universities in the world of BioMedicine and BioTechnology can take advantage of.

BioMed&Tech Talks’, organized by Medina Media Events, has the support of the Progreso y Salud Foundation (FPS), of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Andalusian Regional Government, and representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), Farmaindustria, the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), the Spanish Association of Biocompanies (ASEBIO) and associations of health communicators, such as ANIS, AEC2 and Comunicabiotec, have already confirmed their participation.

Horizon Europe’, for personalized medicine

Among a range of EU instruments, Horizon Europe, the EU research and innovation programme, also supports the development and adoption of personalised medicines that ultimately provide customized solutions to each patient’s needs. This is one of the areas of focus of the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), a public-private partnership with a budget of 2.4 billion euros over the period 2021-2027, supported under Horizon

In addition, the European Union supports Biomedicine and Biotechnology through the Digital Europe, European Health Data Space (EEDS) and UEproHealth programs. Lines that help development in this field of medicine in a “world where there is more and more data available on patients’ diseases and treatment outcomes” and in which “Artificial Intelligence will play a crucial role in the processing of this data”.

The European Commission has also set up a new European partnership for personalized medicine with an EU contribution of 100 million euros, joining forces among more than 50 partners.

 Innovative format for a high-level event

The Hospital Universitario Clínico San Cecilio, in the Granada Health Technology Park, will host the first edition of ‘BioMed&Tech Talks’: Your appointment with research and innovation, a new independent, transversal, international and multidisciplinary event that from April 8 to 11, 2024, coinciding with the World Health Day and Week, will give visibility to innovative projects in BioMedicine and BioTechnology.

The agenda will include two face-to-face sessions (Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 April) and two virtual sessions (10 and 11). This format makes it easier for speakers who cannot travel to Granada to share their progress and messages with the entire community, which raises the academic level of this event to the highest level.

All BM&TTalks presentations can be followed through The Observatory, the digital platform of Medina Media Events, where all interventions will be available 24/365 for on-demand consumption, like Netflix, but free of charge.

The first edition of ‘BioMed & Tech Talks’ is organized by Medina Media Events in collaboration with the Fundación Progreso y Salud of the Consejería de Salud y Consumo de la Junta de Andalucía and is supported by GSK, Nokia, El Observatorio and the Hospital Clínico Universitario San Cecilio. Also collaborating are Andalucía TRADE, ASEBIO, Wellness Forum, Granada Convention Bureau, among others.
