Several Latin American experts will contribute their voice and experience in the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8216;BioMed &amp; Tech Talks&#8217;: Your appointment with research and innovation<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, which already has on its agenda representatives from the WHO, the European Union, FarmaIndustria, multinational pharmaceutical industry and health communicators from the United States, Europe and Latin America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>BioMed &amp;Tech Talks&#8217; <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">is supported by <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>the Fundaci\u00f3n Progreso y Salud (FPS)<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, of the Consejer\u00eda de Salud y Consumo de la Junta de Andaluc\u00eda, and representatives from the Universities of Harvard (USA), Oxford (UK), Granada, Cordoba and Seville, as well as others from Mexico, Colombia and Peru are also participating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Marta Alarc\u00f3n, new GENYO director<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Mexican-American doctor Marta Alarc\u00f3n Riquelme<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, new director of the Genomics and Oncology Research Center (GENYO), will be one of the leading figures of this first edition. An international reference in autoimmune pathologies, she currently carries out her professional work in Granada, from where she leads the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8216;3TR Project&#8217;<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, the largest immunology project of the European Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 (IMI2), endowed with 8 million euros and involving 15 countries and 69 public and private partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7543 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/biomedandtechtalks.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Marta-Alarcon-e1711101375593.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"436\" height=\"436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/biomedandtechtalks.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Marta-Alarcon-e1711101375593.jpg 436w, https:\/\/biomedandtechtalks.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Marta-Alarcon-e1711101375593-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/biomedandtechtalks.com\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Marta-Alarcon-e1711101375593-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 436px) 100vw, 436px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Dr. Riquelme emphasizes that it is a <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8220;European research project to improve the response to treatment in autoimmune, inflammatory and allergic diseases,&#8221; <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">such as asthma, multiple sclerosis, lupus, arthritis, Crohn&#8217;s disease, ulcerative colitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The &#8216;3TR Project&#8217; is an ambitious research project that could <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>change the way in which patients with immune-mediated diseases receive their treatments<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, since, according to the researcher, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8220;around 30-40% of patients have a poor response to the treatments that exist today&#8221;<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">. The doctor and her team are looking for a solution to &#8220;why a patient does not respond adequately to a certain treatment&#8221;, while at the same time <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>determining whether the same treatment can be used to treat two different diseases<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Francisco Lopera, &#8220;mapping&#8221; Alzheimer&#8217;s disease<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Dr. Francisco Lopera<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, a renowned <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Colombian neurologist <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">who leads the Neurosciences Group at the University of Antioquia (Colombia), will be another prominent protagonist of &#8216;BioMed &amp; Tech Talks&#8217;, where he <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>will address one of the <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">most common <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>neurodegenerative diseases worldwide<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Alzheimer&#8217;s disease<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">.
